The Pony Express definitely has an international following. The information below was provided by Klára Nováková May 1997. She is 27 years old. Her boy friend rides for the Ceskoslovensky Pony Express (CZPE), They live in Mnisek pod Brdy a small town near Prague.
This first historical trail is now divided into two parts. From StÞíbrná
Lhota to Jihlava it is so called "Czech Eastern Branch" and the part
from Jihlava to Suchdol is called "Moravian Branch". In the third year
(1987) new "Czech Southern Branch" came to existence going from Stríbrná
Lhota to Horní Planá on the Lipno Lake. In the fourth year (1988) "Czech
Western Branch" was added and it goes from Stríbrná Lhota to Hrensko
where our country borders on Germany. Here is our Pony Express connected
with the Germany one, it continues from Hrensko to Hamburg and Bremen.
One of the most important events in the history of Czechoslovac Pony
Express was that it was accepted to the organization of Westerners
International in 1989 as its 121st corral.
Another important event came in 1990 when our Pony Express was connected
with that in the U.S.A. Six of our riders were sent to America to take
part in delivering mail on the historical trail from Sacramento to St.
Joseph. It was at the occasion of the jubilee ride in the year of 130th
anniversary of this unique post. In the same year a group of American
riders came into our country to take part in bringing mail here. Among
others Ken Martin, the then president of NPEA, Mac Farland, the
president of California section and Bill Arand were here.
In this year the 13th ride of Czechoslovac Pony Express will be
realised. The first rider leaves Suchdol nad Odrou on the 18–th of
August 18, 1997, at 2 p.m. Main changes of mochilla are in Jihlava ( August 19 at 8.30 a.m.), in Stríbrná Lhota the same day at 9
p.m. and the mail will be given to German riders in Hrensko on
August 20 at 10.30 p.m. The mail brought to Stríbrná Lhota by the
riders of Czech Southern Branch will be added to mochilla on
August 19 at 9 p.m.
